JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Datisha Pickett is a local singer who is now a national rising star in Gospel music. Pickett recently won the Vickie Winan's Rising Star Talent Contest in Detroit. She beat more than 500 singers from around the nation. "I was shocked and I cried," said Pickett after her win.
In order to compete, all contestants had to submit a CD, a photograph and the application. From there the field narrowed to about 10. Pickett takes home a recording contract with Destiny Joy Records, which includes a $10,000 signing bonus, and a two-year lease on a 2006 Chrysler 300C. "My faith kept me going and kept me strong. I just love singing and doing ministry work," said the 28-year-old who can't wait to get into the studio. |
