Wednesday, 07 December 2005
Bryan Wilson To Kick Off 14th Annual American Gospel Quartet Convention. January 17, 2006 at the East Birmingham Church of God in Christ (COGIC). In 1994,a 12-year-old boy named Bryan Wilson rocked the gospel world with his stirring rendition of “His Eye is on the Sparrow.” He followed up with two best-selling gospel CDs that earned him Dove and Stellar award nominations. However, after high school graduation, he put music aside to attend Princeton University’s masters of divinity program.
Now, Wilson is back on the music scene with two new songs that he wrote for the star-studded Uncloudy Days CD project (the soundtrack to Bil Carpenter’s acclaimed new book Uncloudy Days: The Gospel Music Encyclopedia) that features gospel legends such as Mavis Staples, the Blind Boys of Alabama and Andrae Crouch.
The founder of the American Gospel Quartet Convention (AGQC), George W. Stewart, has confirmed Wilson to headline the convention’s opening night concert that will feature an array of established and up-and-coming quartet artists. The free concert kicks off at 7:00 p.m. at the East Birmingham Church of God in Christ (COGIC), 5600 First Avenue North in Birmingham, AL. Wilson is currently receiving national radio airplay on his up-tempo, down-home, hand-clapping rendition of “Uncloudy Day” and the autobiographical tune, “Still, My Father” which is about how God taught him to forgive his absentee father.
