Gospel star CeCe Winans will perform Feb. 3 at the State Theatre in New Brunswick, and a portion of the proceeds raised will fund affordable housing projects of the Renaissance Community, located along Route 27 in New Brunswick and Franklin.
The concert is presented by the State Theatre, PSE&G and CDC Properties, affiliated with the First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens in Somerset.
"A person in New Jersey has to earn $20.35 per hour — nearly four times the minimum wage — to be able to afford to rent a modest two-bedroom home for their family," said the Rev. DeForest "Buster" Soaries, Jr., pastor of First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens, in a press release. "Many of the people we depend on in our daily lives — child care workers, cashiers, gas station attendants, nurse aides, retail workers, and security guards — do not make anywhere near $20 an hour. Neither do some of our most vulnerable citizens — like the disabled and elderly — who live on fixed incomes."
The concert will also feature the Rev. Stefanie Minatee and Jubilation. Tickets, $25-$50, are on sale through the State Theatre box office, 15 Livingston Ave. The number for the box office is (732) 246-7469 and Web site is www.statetheatrenj.org. |
