About New Beginnings In The Bible – New Season Of Change

As Christians we are blessed in knowing that new beginnings includes a having Him being an integral part of our lives surrendering ourselves to the word of God.

“Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.”
Isaiah 43:18-19 (KJV)

Deep inside, every human being longs for a new beginning. We all know that we are sinful, and that we are far from perfect. The idea of starting over is popular among all kinds of people in our culture, especially as we approach the New Year. But in all actuality, a new beginning can happen any time of year, to any person. New beginnings aren’t merely about changing your habits or forcing yourself to be someone you’re not. The new beginning that Christ offers is a genuine transformation of the heart. And once our hearts are transformed, everything else changes.

The first step to starting over is surrendering control – and this is where many people become discouraged. Often we say we desire change, but we’re not actually ready to enter the unknown. We would rather cling to what is familiar, even if it is harmful. Many of our greatest problems in life happen simply because we are afraid to let go. But if we are truly seeking change, we have to admit that God knows what is best for us. We have to realize that perhaps before things get better, we must face the pain of leaving our comfort zones. Then and only then can God begin to set us in a new direction.

In 2 Corinthians 5:17, the Apostle Paul says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” Note the unconditionality of this statement: if you are in Christ, you are made new. There is no gray area. Obviously, Paul does not mean that we won’t struggle; He is only saying that even when we stumble, we have hope because of Christ. When we first give our lives to Him, He makes us new. But it doesn’t stop there; He continues to make us new with each passing day. He will keep restoring us until the final day, when sin is defeated once and for all, and we will experience the newness of life forever.

This is the hope we have throughout all our lives. No matter what you’ve done or who you’ve been, it is never too late to start anew. Over and over in scripture, we can see God’s love and forgiveness toward His people. Though we constantly fall short and slip back into our old sin, God keeps pursuing us and drawing us nearer to Him. Maybe you’ve been dealing with some dark, troubling issues for years. Or maybe you simply feel stagnant in your spiritual walk. Regardless of where you are at, you can rest assured in this beautiful truth: that our God is a God of second chances.
