(Washington, DC) – November 1, 2005 – One of the hottest new artists to hit gospel music is dropping his highly anticipated live recording. Earnest Pugh often compared with such powerhouse vocalists as Daryl Coley, Smokie Norful and Donnie McClurkin, is blowing up the airwaves here on the east coast.
Pugh got his start in the gospel music industry under the tutorage of gospel sensation O’landa Draper (O’landa Draper & the Associates). Since then, he’s made appearances on BET’s Bobby Jones Gospel, Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) and at the Bobby Jones Gospel Industry Retreat. He’s also toured the country with various gospel stage plays such as “Love the One You’re With”, “Real Men Pray” and “Crazy Love”. Throughout his career, he’s been blessed to work with some of the genre’s most popular artists including Kirk Franklin, Byron Cage, Ted & Sheri, Yolanda Adams, Donnie McClurkin, Smokie Norful, Vickie Winans, Vanessa Bell Armstrong and BeBe Winans. Now stepping out on his own, Pugh is poised to take the industry by storm with his EPM Music Group debut, A Worshipper’s Perspective.
Pugh, Director of Worship for Ebenezer AME Church in Fort Washington, Maryland, under the leadership of GospoCentric Prince of Praise, Byron Cage, and Pastors Rev. Dr. Grainger Browning, Jr. and Rev. Dr. Jo Ann Browning, includes songs of healing, deliverance and worship. Much more than just an incredibly versatile singer with a multi-octave range, Pugh demonstrates on A Worshipper’s Perspective an innate ability to help the people of God enter into His throne room.
Recorded live at Ebenezer AME Church, the 17-track CD features the minister, psalmist and actor on songs like the amazing opener, Holy Spirit, penned by Brent Jones, and the mesmerizing arrangement of the church anthem Holy, Holy, Holy, songs that pull the true worshipper immediately into the presence of God. Just for Who You Are finds the listener concentrating on the simple awesomeness of God while Father I Worship You brings the lover of God to their knees.
Earnest Pugh writes seven of the album’s cuts including the hand-clapper, He’s There, a duet with Nikki Ross. Flowing seamlessly from contemporary to traditional, Pugh provides another rousing track on the old-time churchy tune, So Much. Songwriting collaboration between Cage and Pugh, the track necessitates dancing in the aisles. Praisers will love the foot-stomping, fast-paced everybody Praise ‘Em and the uplifting, choir-backed Bless His Name. Theater sensation D’Atra Hicks teams up with Earnest to shake the house on Call Him. Other unforgettable tracks include the soulful All I Need which flows into a traditional rendition of the church classic, I Need Thee.
Wearing hats as the album’s executive producer, co-producer and arranger, Pugh had a strong hand in the final result of the praise and worship CD. He says, “This CD is very close to my heart because it ranges from high praise to corporate worship and even flows prophetically at one point. It’s likened unto a church service where the role (as worship leader) is to simply usher the people in the very presence of God. It’s not about vocal ability, riffs and runs but it’s about a corporate body operating and moving in the flow of worship. So I can’t wait to see God’s move in the midst of his people through this recording.”
