BET is undergoing a programming overhaul, launching more than a dozen new series during the coming months. One of those series is Sunday Best, which applies the American Idol formula to gospel singing, searching for the most spirited belter in the land. Its host is Tarrant County's Kirk Franklin, the contemporary gospel superstar who pushed gospel singing back into the mainstream. We chatted him up about the show and his role on it.

Atlanta, GA - August 27, 2007 - Grammy-nominated, Stellar-award winning jazz gospel singer Kim Burrell and nationally syndicated radio personality Ace Alexander of Sheridan Gospel Network, have joined the cast of the touring gospel stage play, "Church Mess: The Next Level."  Both Burrell and Alexander's debut performances are set for September 16 when the comedic, engaging production about church conflict, crisis and triumphant breakthroughs, opens in Montgomery, Alabama at the Davis Theatre.

No one exemplifies the world of gospel like Mahalia Jackson, the genre's first superstar, who brought gospel to a secular audience with greater success than any other artist in the field. Plans are in the works to bring the late Ms. Jackson's life story to the big screen. In addition a big celebration is being during the month of October to commemorate what would have been her 95th birthday. The festivities will take place in Chicago, her home of 45 years.
Columbia Records Signs Yolanda Adams

NEW YORK -- Yolanda Adams, the groundbreaking Grammy- winning contemporary gospel artist, has signed with Columbia Records, who will release her new collection of holiday songs on Tuesday, October 16. Yolanda is currently recording the as-yet-untitled seasonal showcase with legendary production team Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis in her hometown of Houston, Texas. Adams, Jam and Lewis will continue their creative collaboration on a follow-up studio album for Columbia to be released in early 2008.
